Blogs That Rock: Archaeoblog
Near the end of a very long and strenuous six weeks of digging up an Iron Age Moabite site in the Jordanian desert, I asked my field supervisor if I could officially call myself an archaeologist. The answer was a fairly non-committal, "Sure, why not? Keep digging, habibiti."
I've decided that if I can excavate a 3000-year-old ceiling beam with a straw and contract an intestinal parasite, that has to count for something. You can call me a 70% art historian, 30% archaeologist blend. But anyways.
Archaeoblog is a daily newsfeed of archaeology news by a Dr. Anthony Cagle in Seattle. The real magic of the site is how frequently news gets posted—we're talking between 5-10 updates per day. It makes me happy to know that all sorts of awesome stuff is being unearthed every day around the world.
This morning, Anthony attempted a LOLarchaeologist which featured a mustachioed Howard Carter (who discovered Tutankhamen's tomb) saying "I CAN HAZ INTACT NEW KINGDOM TOMB?" A valiant effort, but is that really all you've got?
And so, my stab at a LOLarchaeologist. Your turn.

For the archaeonoobs: Heinrich Schliemann discovered sites like Troy, Mycenae and Tiryns in the mid-19th century. Since he was working before archaeology was a science, he dug trenches into the most archaeologically rich areas of the sites, retrieved the treasure, and destroyed most of the important layers. It's fun to rag on Heinrich Schliemann, but I guess it's not really fair to judge the guy on his crappy archaeological practice when archaeology wasn't really a practice yet.

All I can think of is a picture of Indiana Jones looking at snakes that reads "Do Not Want." LOLarchaeologist creator I am not.
