Illustrator Sidenote

2008_05_17_RamonaFlowers.jpg

I created this graphic for a Torontoist post I did today about the Scott Pilgrim movie. Basically, I inserted Mary Elizabeth Winstead into the SP4 cover scheme, as she will be playing Ramona Flowers, and I needed something to go with the cutesy real life actor/character mash up I did for a previous post.

I'm posting this because a) I am very proud of my Adobe Illustrator prowess in making this happen, since I haven't done much Illustrator work since last summer, and b) I would like to emphasize that this took me only about 45 minutes to an hour to complete. While I am a fan, I swear to blog that I am not a fangirl.

I swear.

I have just started reading the first volume, and it is kind of annoying, especially after seeing Juno. The comic book is more like a comic book adaptation of a movie, the dialouge and pacing are PERFECT for a movie. The whole thing is like storyboards.

Not that this makes it a bad comic book or anything, its just that knowing that it will become a movie, I keep imagining how they will frame the shot and what kind of indie rock will be on the soundtrack at certain parts, it is distracting. It is like reading the book right after watching the movie, except there is no movie yet!

I agree with you Adam, because I've been doing the same thing as I have been re-reading the series. But I don't think I ever considered it distracting and annoying, probably because I'm re-reading and it adds a whole new dynamic to my experience with the material.

It's kind of fun, isn't it?

I approve of you illustratoring. Very nice. It's pretty amazing how quickly you can whip up an image once you get the hang of things.
I love Scott Pilgrim, and am probably am a bit of a fangirl - although I come by it honestly. Three out of four of my copies are signed by the author. I found out about them pretty early on (I went to school with his cousin who told me about them, and that I would love them).
Although I maintain that the second book was the best, and they get a little more increasingly sloppy as they progress.
Which probably makes me even more of a fangirl, really.

Book Two really is fantastic, isn't it?

Shocking Secret: I haven't actually read Book Four yet.

Oh, also, the bit where I said it looks like a storyboard for the movie, I meant that before I finished the last 15 or so pages of the first volume.

I have no idea how they will shoot all of that stuff and not confuse the hell out of anyone with that rather abrupt change of tone.
