The Rapids of Lanark County

2008_05_16Almonte02.jpg

Last weekend, Pete and I had a weekend getaway/family engagement in Almonte, Ontario. With me being a die-hard Torontonian who obviously thinks everything to do with Ottawa and its surrounding areas is lame, I wasn't expecting much. However, I was completely romanced by the natural beauty of Lanark County and its charming historic mill towns.

Fun Fact: Lanark County is the maple syrup capital of Ontario.

Additional Fun Fact: According to Wikipedia, Almonte (population 4,648) has exactly 60 visible ethnic minorities living in town, 15 of which are "Back."

More photos from the trip behind the cut.

We stayed at a B&B called the Old Burnside, which is a stunning 1840's Georgian mansion. It was a fantastic value.

The best part of the whole trip? Cheese curds: fresh n' squeaky!

I felt a little sad to see that there are 0 Arab people in "al-MON-tey". But with average house prices in reasonable territory, I could eventually buy a house and turn that 0 in to a 1.

Or Bopnik could move there and turn that 0 into a 0.5. There are LOTS of places to store fireplaces in Almonte.
