Things I will miss about Montreal: Van Houtte

How do these coffee shops not exist in Toronto???

Van Houtte kind of looks like Lettieri and has numerous locations like Starbucks, but has better food and coffee than both. I had their smoked salmon panini and their breakfast panini, and both were delicious. Best of all, you can get drip coffee in barrel-sized mugs like the one Pete is holding (above). The photo is obviously playing with proportions but it’s not too far off from the actual size of the mug, I swear.

Quebec Tim Horton’s is pretty much exactly the same as Ontario Tim Horton’s, except a regular coffee is called a one-one. One cream, one sugar. It actually makes a lot more sense; “regular” is a bit presumptuous, isn’t it? Will they look at me crazy if I start ordering one-one’s at the Winchester Tim Horton’s?

There’s actually a Van Houtte out in Missisauga.

Which, I know, not Toronto really, but.

Hey! Good to know, yet still not entirely useful. But good to know.

We have a Van Houtte cappuccino machine at work and it’s glorious.
