Sita Sings the Blues

Be sure to check out the lushly animated Sita Sings the Blues (82 minutes) by Nina Paley!
The film illustrates the plight of Sita, wife of Rama, in the epic Ramayana, interspersed with episodes from Paley’s own life and featuring music by 1920’s jazz singer Annette Hanshaw.
Paley is caught up in some copyright drama because of her use of Hanshaw’s tracks, so she’s releasing the film under Creative Commons and is asking for donations to pay the copyright holders’ demands of $50,000. You can donate here.
Enjoy!

I first remember reading about this cartoon sooooo long ago, and awaiting it’s completion. So gorgeous.
