Obama visits the pyramids

When he was in Egypt at the start of the month, Obama and his staff took some time to visit the pyramids at Giza. It made for some pretty great photo ops for the White House Flickr feed.

Fangirl alert…

Here is Obama walking with Zahi Hawass, the pompous Secretary General of the Egyptian Supreme Council of Antiquities, who rules Egypt’s ancient treasures with an iron fist. I have such a love-hate relationship with this man. Oh my god, he has a fan club! He is his own walking fan club. Look how self-important he looks standing next to Obama.

Obama inside the pyramid complex. He commented that the hieroglyph at centre-right looked like him.

Let’s take a closer look:

LOL, it totally does.

This would be an opportune time for doing an “I’m crushing your head” to the Sphynx. Then again, that might be viewed as an act of hostility toward the Egyptian state.

Someone gave him this Indiana Jones hat as a joke. I hope he keeps it.

I’ve been trying to get an interview with Zahi Hawass for weeks and I’ve gotten nowhere. I kind of hate him too.

I’m kind of surprised by that, actually. I can’t imagine Hawass turning down any opportunity to be on television.

Maybe he’s being picky about the type of shows he’ll do now that he’s all buddy-buddy with Obama :)
