Christmas in Florida

2010_01_01Miami01

White Christmas? Pshhhht! Boat Christmas is where it’s at, as the kids say.

Yes, me and Pete spent Christmas on my parents boat in Florida. Instead of placing presents under the Christmas tree, we placed them under a television tuned to the burning log channel. It was very festive!

Actually, it was super festive. My mom decorated the interior with garlands and twinkle lights. She would want me to tell you that she picked those large pinecones herself from underneath a tree in Virginia or somewhere. No Walmart pine cones here; this is the real deal!

The weekend before Christmas we visited Pete’s family in Windsor. They sent along a whole sack full of presents and tons of warm Christmas wishes.

I cannot contain my excitement.

I got Pete a coffee grinder but it was too big to bring, so I wrapped up this empty beer bottle instead.

All my Dad wanted for Christmas was Kraft peanut butter, which they do not sell in the States, it seems. He tried Skippy, he tried Jif, he tried (at my mother’s insistance) the freshly ground organic peanut butter, but it was not happening.

We spent Christmas dinner with some old friends of my mom’s at their waterfront mansion in Ft. Lauderdale. Their super-cool 7-year-old granddaughter got a Nintendo DSi for Christmas and we had a good time with the camera feature. After dinner, we fed the turkey carcass to the fishes in the back yard canal.

This is me hamming it up for children.

That looks like so much fun! I want to be a Whaley when I grow up.

Also, that boat is way bigger than I had previously imagined. Holy crap!
