Lunchtime: Wonton Soup

2010_02_02_Wonton

Wonton soup is the perfect go-to lazy lunch. I buy those frozen wontons from K.J. Foods from the No Frills or Chinatown East for $2.50-2.99 a pop and stick ‘em in some chicken broth with a touch of soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger powder and garlic powder. Simmer until the wontons are cooked and then garnish with some chopped green onions and pepper.

This wasn’t a recipe as much as it was an excuse to post pictures of me slurping wontons. Om nom nom!

I am rather enjoying that your blog is turning into food porn. Today: awkward POV action!

Do wontons have meat in them? I’m asking because the only time I had wonton soup was at this vegan Chinese restaurant in Philadelphia (and it was AWESOME), but I’ve been too afraid to get it anywhere else for fear of accidentally eating a piggy…

The wontons definitely have tons of pigs in them. I don’t think you’d be able to find vegan wontons really easily in the grocery store, but I wonder if you’ve heard of this Chinese vegetarian restaurant out at Broadview and Gerrard?

Oooh, is it called something like “Vegetarian Paradise”? I read about it in NOW a few weeks ago… Have you been?
